Erin Thiele converted A Wise Woman's workbook into a men’s version of A Wise Man after many requests from men for a workbook of their own. Close to thirty years later, with five teenage grandsons, it was time to take A Wise Woman in Waiting for teenage girls, along with A Wise Man, and work with the Creator yet again to prepare our sons for warfare, “fighting in the spirit.”
God instructs His people to prepare for war by turning plowshares into swords and pruning hooks into spears. Joel 3:9-10. While Timothy admonishes us “to fight the good fight by keeping his faith and having a good conscience.” 1 Timothy 1:18-20. God is training the young men’s hands for war and fingers for battle in Psalms 144:1-2 While Ecclesiastes reminds us there’s “a time for war and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:7-8
This book contains the blueprints for the Wise young man to build his life on the Rock. Introduce them, study them with your sons, apply them to your life as an example, and protect your family's future from the destruction that so many families continue to experience by building on sinking sand.
Introduction
Before building, you must have good blueprints. Your blueprints must be His Word, which you will find in the following pages. Next, you must find the Cornerstone that everything will be built around. Our Cornerstone is discovering your Lord, not just your Savior. All of us will face trials and tribulations in our lives. That's why Believers must begin to build our lives firmly on the Rock.
As you read each chapter, you will see clearly that your trust must be in the Lord only. By reading and referring to His Word, the Bible, you will have all that you need to renew your mind to God’s way of thinking. This will help you throw out every other "opinion" you hear. You will soon discover that you find yourself checking to see what God says about everything you think or hear because "His Word is Truth." That's the moment that you will feel confident that your life will be built on the Rock and kept safe from the destruction of sinking sand.
For those of you who are living in a life of rubble and destruction (because your family has fallen through infidelity or divorce), you truly have an advantage. You are motivated to begin to make sure you move your life to higher ground.
Those of you who are living in a stable family feel comfortable, but obviously, God is trying to get your attention, and that's why He led you to this book. Remember, God said, WHEN the rains come, not IF they come. He told us clearly that all those whose lives are NOT built on the Rock will fall, and great will be their fall!
Your rains and winds may come in many forms: unfaithfulness and betrayal, sickness and death in the family, and often in financial troubles. God is forever faithful. He will use whatever He knows will get your attention to point you on the right path to living an abundant life.
This book, which He led you to, is not meant to be read once and forgotten about. It is my sincere hope and prayer that it will continue to give you the knowledge you need to prevent you from following in the destructive path others have taken. There's no doubt that God sees your heart and is (at this very moment) “strongly supporting” you.
It is time for all young men (and young women) to realize that each failing marriage you witnessed fell because they were built on sinking sand, and it's why —now is the time to begin to build your life firmly on the Rock of God’s Word.
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of His returning” (Philippians 1:6).
